Here is the first part of @Adam Jaremko photo coverage of PRZYWRACANIE_ВОРОТТЯ: Olga Polyak’s works Wbrew nurtowi (Against the Current) and Dom z Sercem (A House with a Heart) and Halyna Dudar’s performance Matko ochraniaj ziemię (Mother, Protect the Land).
The Polish word przywracanie means restoration, but as we found out, it is difficult to translate into Ukrainian. The word вороття works to an extent, but in most cases it simply means to return, perhaps with a hint of nostalgia or poetic sentiment. Interestingly, it is most commonly used with a negative: без вороття, and refers to places and situations where there is no way out.
We decided that przywracanie and вороття (no negative), permanently bound together, would be the keywords that describe the results of the creative endeavours of our July residents. The combination itself obviously refers to the ambiguous context of the place, and its meaning – to once again filling a ruined space with meaning, striving to fill a void and attempts at introducing harmony to a reality that remains difficult and dissonant.
