HrayBery and Kapela Serhija Okhrimczuka: instrumental music from the Ukrainian/Polish border areas. The band consists of: Serhiy Postolnikov (Hulajhorod, US Orchestra), Maksym Nakonechny (Krajka, Kapela Serhija Ochrimczuka), Marta Bodnar (D'hori – this year’s Stara Tradycja winner), Severyn Danileyko (Hulajhorod, Krajka, Chorea Kozatska) and Agata Weber (drum fan). The band’s repertoire focuses on such dances as kozachoks, kolomyikas, mazurkas, polkas and waltzes, reconstructed based on various archival footage. The band’s sound transports the listener to a world of multicultural music inhabited by Poles, Ukrainians and Jews. The band’s members play traditional instruments: violins, cimbaloms and drums, and occasionally also bass guitars. In the 19th century, such bands were popular in both cities and rural areas, as evidenced by preserved historical evidence.
